Erik's Journal

Date: October 19th 2002.

Geography: London, Ont.

Point form day: Slowly rolled out of bed at the 4 Points after an adventurous Oktoberfest -make our back to London to meet and have lunch with Kingsley's -did a major clean of the RV -went surfing on Lake Huron with Christa and Nick -Met up with our great friend from Powell River Dr. Josh Williams - had dinner with Jeff Timmons and his fiancˇe Jen and then went out to a local bar for music. -met Roy, a street philosopher, on the street and sang songs and laughed -stayed up late talking.

Highlight of the day: Do you have too ask? I have wanted to surf the great lakes since I became a Canadian surfer. The sun was shining on the beautiful beach in front of Grand Bend Ontario and my soul was filled with joy. We surfed an old windsurf board in 2-3ft wind chop wearing almost no wetsuits. (I was in a hooded vest and board shorts) It strikes me as very funny that I still feel like a kid when I hit the waves. I was running and dancing and skipping down the beach in a primal state of bliss. Water truly is the fountain of youth.

Most inspiring moment: Talking to Roy the street thinker. On the way to the bar we passed a homeless guy on the street. We said hi but didn't stop to talk. We He is apparently quite well known (with ties Margaret Atwood and Leonard Cohen) and is the author of several books and the subject of a play. It was really cool we all stood around and talked and a song.

Shout outs: Thanks Mom, Dad, Christa, Heather, Trisha Kingsley you are wonderful. Thank you for letting us into your home and making us feel like it was ours. (but cleaner and less smelly) Thanks Nick for letting me use your board. Congrats Jeff and Jen.

Classic quote: "This is Kelly, our Movieographer." -A un named group member introducing our videographer Kelly.

My crux: Trying to surf this 12ft, 2 ton, leashless windsurf board in 2ft on shore windchop. I would have liked to have gotten more waves. I always would have liked to have gotten more waves though.

Physically speaking: Solid. Did yoga today. I slammed a door on my finger and crushed it.

Mental stimulation: Huh?

Big laughs: On the way to Grand Bend, (the town where we surfed) we passed a small town called Lobo. Christa made us sing the "Lobo Song" a song that she has sung every time she passed since childhood. It goes " Here we are in Lobo, in Lobo, in Lobo, in Lobo, Here we are in Lobo, not far from Grama's house. Ohhh my bummy, my bummy, my bummy, My tummy, my tummy, my tummy if my bummy was where my tummy was maybe it wouldn't be so sore." Please insure you sing this song every time you pass through Lobo.

When I finished writing this I was: Listening in to Dave editing Chris' writing.
