Extreme Kindness

Erik's Journal

Date: October 8th 2002.

Geography: Somewhere on the shores of Lake Superior between Thunder bay and Sault Ste Marie.

Point form day: Woke up at 1:30 and watched the most beautiful northern lights I have ever seen -woke up at 10:00 and went for a swim in Lake Superior (swam in the direction of the waves and half bodysurfed my way in, it was brisk but made me yearn for home) -rolled into Sault Ste Marie and had an associate rally with the staff of the Best Western -Did laundry -called Mom.

Highlight of the day: For sure the northern lights. It was beyond beautiful the whole sky was lit on fire. Red, green, white dancing and jumping across the sky. We were all standing out on this gravel road, in the middle of nowhere, in our boxers staring at the sky. The fifth time I have ever seen the northern lights, but certainly the best.

Most inspiring moment: Meeting all the wonderful people from across the country at the Coin Laundry across the street from the Best Western. We had fantastic conversations ranging from 'the west coast' to 'talking to washing machines' to 'baby names' to 'skate parks and youth' to 'funny experiences with cars'. You can't beat talking to people.

Shout outs: The staff at the best western. All the people I met at the coin laundry. Wayne from High on Health, Thanks, you run a great shop, keep up the good work

Classic Quote: "Wasn't Jason Voarhes from around here, yeah, death lake, that's just near here, no.... I'm serious." -Kelly trying to spook us while parked on a secluded gravel road in the middle of nowhere.

My Crux: Energy levels and misperceptions.

Physically Speaking: Beat down. I am getting a little sick and am pretty tired.

Mental Stimulation: I've been reading. Sort of.

Big Laughs: At Kelly attempting to throw a scare into us.

When I finished writing this I was: Eating blueberry pie.
