Extreme Kindness

Erik's Journal - September 18, 2002

Geography: Wonderful sunny Edmonton, Alberta.

Point form day: Opened my eyes at 9:00 and found a dusty toonie underneath the bed, (yes, I am still sleeping on the floor), worked on the computer, went to the West Edmonton Mall and filmed with AccessTV, we took a bunch of people out of work for free ice skating in the mall, went to the children’s hospital and delivered toys and props, returned to the hotel and had a wrap up with the Kindness Team, returned to the WEM to scout locations for filming at the wave and amusement parks (of course we had to go on all the rides), returned for dinner and the compliment game, went up on top of the roof again.

Highlight of the day: Spending quality fun time with the gang. You gotta love it.

Most inspiring moment: Sitting down with the boys for a session of the compliment game. The compliment game is basically us sitting down and systematically breaking down each persons recent successes and redeeming qualities.

Shout outs: To Chris Bratseth, Val Litwin, Brad Stokes, and David Crow for being some of the most open, inspiring and supportive people I know. Seriously, I couldn’t have asked for better friends. Mason Jennings for being such a great musician, good work.

Classic Quote: “Yes?” –me responding to a woman in WEM calling, “Dear…?” across the mall to her husband. She laughed.

My Crux: Finding a finesse on film today was hard for me.

Physically Speaking: Great, back on the yoga train again. I also swam underwater from one side of the West Ed wave pool to the other, a feat that made me feel ill to my stomach. I them proceeded to go on vertical drop waterslides, ride backwards and forwards on a roller coaster, shoot up and down on a gravity machine. After, I admit, I felt a bit ill.

Mental Stimulation: Emotional more than any, but I did read this morning

Big Laughs: Watching Dave’s face tighten as we sat beside each other on the roller coaster. 5.2Gs will do that to you. Props to Dave for taking the bull by the horns.

When I finished writing this I was: Listening to Mason Jennings and absolutely loving life.
