Extreme Kindness

Erik's Journal - September 14, 2002

Geography: The hot and surprisingly hilly terrain of Red Deer.

Point form day: Awake late 8:30, went for a run in the park behind the Hotel, buffet breakfast, worked scooping poop and hauling dog food at the local SPCA, Had lunch at the hotel, went to Sylvan Lake, raced go carts with random people, played mini golf, celebrated a birthday (Jason’s), went filming and skating with Kelly at the local Sk8 park, had a big dinner, finished reading my book.

Highlight of the day: Riding strapped in to the back of a go cart filming one of the girls we had hooked up with a free go cart ride. She seemed timid until you put her behind the wheel. It was a lot of fun and very funny.

Most inspiring moment: Meeting so many people throughout the day that were stoked on what we were doing. From two guys at the SK8 park, to a 40 year old woman with tattoos, to our waitress, to a little gromment, to random people we would meet on the street, so many people are stoked on this project. Man, this is a fun!

Shout outs: Farah Nosh. So many things to thank you for but right now I would like to say thanks for burning me that CD. I am thoroughly enjoying it. Thanks Glen for driving us around today and hooking us up with Melody. Melody thanks for hooking up the go carts.

My Crux: Getting the planning and the work and the exercise and the fun all done in one day.

Physically Speaking: Pretty good although I have been sort of slacking with the yoga in the last couple of days. My knee was a little sore while I was running this morning.

Mental Stimulation: I am getting mentally organized

Big Laughs: As a group we sometimes play a game where we pick a grouping of people, ( for example all the characters in Star Wars or classic mythological figures or TV stars, basically whatever we can think of) and within that grouping of people we decide who each one of us would be based on similar character traits. Try it, there are some fantastic laughs. We had exhausted several groups of people already including, hockey players, Muppets (I was Gonzo), famous writers and we had moved on to world political leaders a few suggestions had been thrown out already when Brad shouted out, “Oh, Oh I know who Bratseth is…” We waited with baited breath, “he's totally George Clinton!” I expect he was probably trying to say George Bush or even Bill Clinton but if you know who he is you know he is probably the furthest thing from a world political leader. (if you don't know who he is look him up on the internet) I was laughing so hard I was crying.

When I finished writing this I was: Listening to music from Egypt.
