Extreme Kindness

Erik's Journal - September 16, 2002

Geography: En route to Edmonton.

Point form day: Woke up at 7:00, had a great talk with a woman from Brazil, met with management from Red Deer Lodge, went to the Sk8 park, rolled out of town in the RV en route to Edmonton, arrived at the Mayfield Inn in Edmonton and had lunch with the Kindness Team (Sonny and Andrea), put on an associate rally, had a talk radio interview on 630 CHED, had the most amazing steak dinner at the steak house restaurant just off of the hotel, bed.

Highlight of the day: The Steak dinner at the steak house in the Mayfield. Oh my! That was one of the best meals have had in months.

Most inspiring moment: At the CHED radio interview we had been on for 30min or so when a listener called and said,” Is your name Erik Hanson?” “Yes,” I replied, “ Was your Dad a teacher in Powell River?” “Yes” “He used to teach me in grade 7 and really helped me out. He used to start the day by getting us to focus on the tips of our pencils and think of something positive….” I was beyond stoked. It helped prove that this sort of good vibe has been affecting people for years. Way to be Dad! I love you so much.

Shout outs: Thank Sonny and Andrea for making us feel welcome. My parents, you have been setting the standard for years. You are inspiration for fresh, new, positive thinking.

Classic Quote: “Watch out, I’m from the Yukon.” –A guy at the SK8 park that I eventually discovered I had skated and shared food with several months ago at the Ladner SK8 park. We were stoked.

My Crux: Trying to get all this work done is such a short time.

Physically Speaking: A little stiff.

Mental Stimulation: Bought the new Utne Reader.

Big Laughs: When we had lunch at the Mayfield with Sonny and Andrea we developed “Don” names for everyone in the group based in character traits and looks. Don Juan (Val), Don Quixote (Chris), Donair (me), Don Ho (Brad), Don King (Kelly), Don Johnson (Dave) Don Giovanni (Sonny), Don-na (Andrea). Big Laughs.

When I finished writing this I was: Sleepy.
